About Me

Steve Yard, Yardrake, Yardstick, Yardbird, S. Randally, and many, many more. These all signify me, moi, yours truly. But, basically, just call me Steve.

I’m pretty sure I’ve been interested in computers/technology since I was born, but the earliest I can remember was my fascination with computers when I was in elementary school (most likely as early as Kindergarten or 1st grade; ask Joey because apparently that’s also when I taught him how to tie his shoes).

Anyway, enough of this fiddle faddle, let’s get down to business. I went to elementary school at Valley Christian School (www.vcs-hvpc.com) where I was known for doing everything on the computer. Middle School and High School at Abington Junior and Senior High were much of the same. In 9th Grade, I finally got my shot at coding. You never know how cool it is to program until you do it yourself. We started out with Karel the Robot, probably one of the most primitive procedural languages you will ever see (technically it wasn’t even a language because it was based on commands that Karel “performed”) . Then, we moved into the realm of real coding, Turbo Pascal. Although procedural and lightweight, it was a stepping stone for many of us in the class. You will never appreciate Object-Oriented Programming unless you’ve written a procedural program.

OOP (object-oriented programming) finally came in the form of C++ 10th and 11th grades. Even though most of sophomore year was primarily C coding, 11th grade dealt heavily with classes and inheritance from C++. 12th grade came and I was able to branch out with Cisco Semesters 1 & 2. Also, we were introduced to Java and its OOP style.

Right now, I’m currently a Senior at Taylor University. I’m a Computer Science Major in New Media. This special major includes Art (Design), Communications (Video & Audio), and Computer Software analyzing, designing, programming, etc. However, I’ve also grown fond of being able to understand the hardware side, or at least get a general idea for topics, ideas, and terms.

Currently, I’m working for WW Adcock Inc. Pool Supplies (www.wwadcock.com) doing some remote network administration and technical support for them.

I enjoy playing the guitar whenever I can, watching The Office, 24 and Star Wars all the time, and pwning some noobs with Bebo, Brandon, J, Allan, and others. Also, here is where I give mad props to NLCC College and Career for being one awesome bunch of friends.

And, last, but certainly greatest of all, wicked sick mad props to my one and only Savior, Jesus Christ. Died for us and rose again. There was and is no greater love.
